Damian's Bees

Here we go some photos of Damian's Lovely Bees with a short explanation of some of the pictures taken by Melmo in a bee suit which is rather tricky. First up we have the Queen. This is the troublesome Queen on the smaller hive (he has two the photos are in a rather jumbled order). Anyway can you spot her? She is the one with out stripes and is bigger than the rest. She is the replacement Queen. The bees didn't like the first one so created a new one - nice!
Here is Damian hanging with his bees. I think it is a kinda cool thing to be able to get so close to the bees without having to wear all the gear. One of our favourite things is just hanging out with the bees watching them do their stuff. This is the smaller hive with the troublesome Queen.

Once Damian opens up the hive the bees tend to wander everywhere.

You can see the smoker. I am always down wind of the smoker cough cough!

This is the Queen excluded. It make sure the Queen stays in the box laying the eggs. It is smaller enough for the bees to wander thru but she stays put.

This is how Damian pulls the frames out. His favourite tool is the hive tool which helps you slide up the frame.

A very full and happy frame of bees.

Lots of bees and wax and even some honey, mmmmm, honey

Looking for eggs.

You can see how the top frame is built up more than the bottom one. They are from different boxes of the hive.

The Queen excluder in action.

The top of the bee hive.
Damian and the locals.
The beekeeper and his hive. This is the stronger hive with more supers.
A lovely drop of honey.

Taking off the super (box) to get into the check the bees.

Damian and his hives. Getting ready to suit up.

The bees entrance to the hive.
Coming in to Land!
I am sure my little comments have technical errors - remember I am only a bee assistant.
Will post more photos.
